Dating the Dutch 

It’s February again and that means we are spreading the love! And whether you’re a dating professional or not, being a newbie in the Dutch dating scene can be a tricky one. Let us give you some tips!

Keep it casual

In general, the Dutch are pretty down to earth people, also when it comes to dating. So that means: no hodgepodge. Be casual, be you. Wear your sneakers, your favorite sweater and prepare for a fun night drinking beer somewhere in a bruin café. Did she show up with her hair still wet from the shower? At least she took the effort to shower.

Let's be honest

The Dutch are pretty straight forward an do not shy away from telling you the truth. Something stuck between your teeth? They’ll let you know. This might come across as rude, but actually honesty is a very important value in Dutch culture.

Emancipation

Dutch women are pretty emancipated, so do not be surprised when they suddenly offer to pay the bill. On the same note, Dutch men are modern: they will not get scared easily when you slip out your card to pay the bill. It's really a two way road here.

Going Dutch

In addition to the emancipation part, there is one more thing that you should take into account when you’re at a bar: splitting the bill. Not everyone is as emancipated, and if you are a regular in de Dutch dating scene you will know that very often, each pays their own half.
