I'm a long-time self-employed multidisciplinary creative professional (photographer/creative director/media background) pursuing fluency in Dutch, recently relocated the Netherlands (Feb. 1st, 2026) via a DAFT Visa. I have a valid residence permit, a network of Dutch friends and a sense of community, having spent extended stays in the NL twice in two years. This time, my move is permanent. Goedendag, Ik ben deeltijd PhD-student aan de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, bij de faculteit filosofie. Ik heb een dubbele nationaliteit, Duits en Zuid-Afrikaans, en woon al ongeveer twee jaar in Gouda (Zuid-Holland). Daarvoor heb ik in Brussel (ongeveer 7 jaar) en in Berlijn (ongeveer 1,5 jaar) gestudeerd en gewerkt. Gouda bevalt me goed, het was perfect om mijn proefschrift te schrijven, maar de verhuurder verkoopt het huis en ik moet dus vóór augustus van dit jaar verhuizen. I like to have meaningful conversations, and enjoy the occasional social event. Overall, however, I prefer a quieter peaceful environment.
