Hi, I’m moving from Germany to Delft or The Hague to start my master’s in Applied Mathematics at TU Delft. Outside university, I’m really into sports. At the moment that mostly means running and cycling, but I’m generally up for trying pretty much anything and have been thinking about picking up football again. I’m also a big fan of spontaneous plans, whether that means going for a run, heading to the park, cooking dinner together or grabbing a beer somewhere. I like learning new things and can easily get drawn into a good discussion or some random topic I suddenly want to understand. Recently I’ve also picked up reading again after some peer pressure from friends, and I’m actually enjoying it. I’m using the rest of August to learn as much Dutch as I can. I’m still a beginner, but I’d like to improve quickly once I’m living there and can actually use it every day. I’ve already lived in a shared apartment during my bachelor’s, so I know what it’s like to share a home with other people. Ideally, I’d like to live somewhere where people occasionally cook together, hang out or spontaneously do something, rather than just sharing a kitchen and never seeing each other. I am a 24-year-old Canadian law student from Toronto. I have been in Groningen since August 2025. I came to Groningen as part of my Canadian University’s partnership with RUG that allowed me to finish my Canadian Juris Doctor degree and enabled me to get an LLM at RUG. As such, currently, I have completed the Juris Doctor degree and am wrapping up my LLM in Law and Technology at the RUG. In Canada, the study of law is exclusively a graduate study. As a result, I also have an Undergraduate Degree from the University of Toronto. Initially, I planned to go back to Toronto for work after the completion of my study in Groningen. However, I have fallen in love with the city and its walkability/cyclability. As a result, I plan to stay in the city for some time and establish a legal career in Europe. Currently, I am in the process of searching for a legal job. In the meantime, I have lined up some part time work to keep up with expenses. Although surprised, my family is supportive of my decision to stay in Groningen and are willing to act as my financial safety net, if needed.
