I am a 24-year-old Canadian law student from Toronto. I have been in Groningen since August 2025. I came to Groningen as part of my Canadian University’s partnership with RUG that allowed me to finish my Canadian Juris Doctor degree and enabled me to get an LLM at RUG. As such, currently, I have completed the Juris Doctor degree and am wrapping up my LLM in Law and Technology at the RUG. In Canada, the study of law is exclusively a graduate study. As a result, I also have an Undergraduate Degree from the University of Toronto. Initially, I planned to go back to Toronto for work after the completion of my study in Groningen. However, I have fallen in love with the city and its walkability/cyclability. As a result, I plan to stay in the city for some time and establish a legal career in Europe. Currently, I am in the process of searching for a legal job. In the meantime, I have lined up some part time work to keep up with expenses. Although surprised, my family is supportive of my decision to stay in Groningen and are willing to act as my financial safety net, if needed. I have been paying 800 EUR for my current SSH accommodation and can provide the receipts. Apart from my study and work-based pursuits, I have kept engaged with hobbies in the city including Salsa and Ballroom dancing. I am also a part of the travel association AEGEE and have taken opportunities to travel across 12 European countries. Additionally, I am currently taking Dutch intensive summer classes. I hope to have at least an A2 level proficiency in the language by the end of this summer.

Ik ben echt dol op de stad en vind het heerlijk om rond te wandelen en steeds weer nieuwe plekjes, leuke cafés, winkeltjes en interessante tentoonstellingen te ontdekken. Ik ben dan ook heel blij dat ik hier nog een jaar mag blijven, al verwacht ik dat mijn scriptie me volgend jaar behoorlijk bezig gaat houden. Een beetje over mij: ik ben graag creatief bezig. Mijn favoriete hobby's zijn naaien, haken en borduren, al probeer ik ook regelmatig nieuwe hobby's en DIY-projecten uit (het grootste probleem is meestal om ze ook echt af te maken). Ik ben ook een grote fan van The Office, dus de kans is groot dat ik daar af en toe een quote uit gebruik. Verder ga ik graag een koffie drinken of een drankje doen, en vind ik het leuk om nieuwe plekjes uit te proberen.
