I am a 24-year-old Canadian law student from Toronto. I have been in Groningen since August 2025. I came to Groningen as part of my Canadian University’s partnership with RUG that allowed me to finish my Canadian Juris Doctor degree and enabled me to get an LLM at RUG. As such, currently, I have completed the Juris Doctor degree and am wrapping up my LLM in Law and Technology at the RUG. In Canada, the study of law is exclusively a graduate study. As a result, I also have an Undergraduate Degree from the University of Toronto. Initially, I planned to go back to Toronto for work after the completion of my study in Groningen. However, I have fallen in love with the city and its walkability/cyclability. As a result, I plan to stay in the city for some time and establish a legal career in Europe. Currently, I am in the process of searching for a legal job. In the meantime, I have lined up some part time work to keep up with expenses. Although surprised, my family is supportive of my decision to stay in Groningen and are willing to act as my financial safety net, if needed. I have been paying 800 EUR for my current SSH accommodation and can provide the receipts. Apart from my study and work-based pursuits, I have kept engaged with hobbies in the city including Salsa and Ballroom dancing. I am also a part of the travel association AEGEE and have taken opportunities to travel across 12 European countries. Additionally, I am currently taking Dutch intensive summer classes. I hope to have at least an A2 level proficiency in the language by the end of this summer.

I'm someone who gets a lot of energy from being around people, whether that's at uni, a rugby training session, a night out, or just chatting over dinner. At the same time, I'm just as happy disappearing into nature for a walk, reading a good book, meditating for a bit, or taking my old camcorder out to film whatever catches my eye. I've also recently gotten into dancing, so don't be surprised if I'm the first one convincing people to join me on the dance floor. I've lived in France, the US, Scotland, and the UAE, which has given me the chance to meet people from all kinds of backgrounds. I think that's made it pretty easy for me to connect with others and feel at home in new places. At home, I like keeping shared spaces clean and comfortable. I'm always happy to hang out or cook together, but I also appreciate everyone's own space just as I appreciate mine. I naturally clean up after myself and believe the state of your house reflects your state of mind.
