Hi! I am a PhD candidate in Leiden University as well as freelance writer (which means I have double income). I am currently looking for a room or a flat for one person. Growing up in Japan, where cleaning and organizing are part of school education, I have developed a strong habit of keeping things clean and tidy. I would also be happy to contribute to household tasks and help maintain the home as a whole. When I lived in an international shared house in Japan, I was always the one who cleaned the kitchen and shared food with roommates. I am a sociable person, but not a party person. I would prefer a quiet life so that I can concentrate on my work and study. Flexible and easy-going, yet tidy and well-organized. Love hagelslag and kaas, but trying not to eat too much. Studying the Dutch language, though currently at a beginner level. No smoking, no pet, no drug, no alcohol. If my house owner or roommates are interested in Japanese food or Asian food, I am more than happy to cook for them :) I would like to know what else I could contribute to the house. Hello, I'm Emilio. I’m 22 years old and will be 23 in May 2026. I was born and raised in Napa, California but have lived in Denver, Colorado for the past 2 years. I have three citizenships, American, Italian and Canadian. I speak English and some Italian, but no Dutch (yet!). I plan on settling into my new home in Amsterdam in June 2026, and will work part-time after getting settled in. I’m willing to rent sooner for the right home to avoid housing chaos. I do have savings and allocate my financial resources responsibly. I enjoy playing video games such as Cities: Skylines, and going to many EDM shows. I’m social but not a big partier. I love travelling and have visited my family in Italy since I was 6 months old. I’m very passionate about non-car centric city planning, which is why I’m going to Amsterdam to study it since I believe they have the best cities in the world. I hope to take that knowledge of the Netherlands and bring it back to the USA to help improve our car-centric cities here. I’m pursuing a Bachelor’s at University of Amsterdam to study Human Geography and Planning, eventually gaining a Masters in a related field. In terms of housing, my preference would be in Amsterdam within a reasonable commute to the Roeterseiland campus, but understand I may need to look further out. I would prefer to live in a private studio, but I’m also open to shared housing. In Denver, I’ve lived with three various other roommates the whole time, and all of us have gotten along very well. I’m very clean and quite quiet, though I do like socializing with my roommates when we’re able to. Having lived with roommates the past 2 years, I’m more than happy to share a space with others and I keep common areas very tidy. I’m excited to meet people from around the world and experience my next chapter.
