My name is Dionysios Chatzoulis, though my friends call me Dion, and I am 21 years old (soon turning 22). I recently graduated from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN, where I completed my degree in Biochemistry. During my studies, I developed a strong interest in drug development research, which inspired me to pursue a master’s degree in Medicinal Chemistry at Radboud University. I am very excited to continue my academic journey in the Netherlands. Throughout my time at Augsburg, I was a full-time student while also working part-time as an Event Assistant for the university. This position provided valuable financial support and strengthened my sense of responsibility and independence. Last summer, I received funding to conduct my first research project, focusing on the Fries Rearrangement reaction using alternative heating sources. My goal was to explore greener catalytic methods for a reaction widely used in the production of pharmaceuticals (such as paracetamol), fragrances, pesticides, and textile dyes. This experience confirmed my passion for research and my desire to contribute to scientific development. Outside of academics, I enjoy staying active. I was part of my university’s basketball team for the first 2 years and continue to play as a hobby. In my free time, I also enjoy walking and listening to music.
