I am a 24-year-old Canadian law student from Toronto. I have been in Groningen since August 2025. I came to Groningen as part of my Canadian University’s partnership with RUG that allowed me to finish my Canadian Juris Doctor degree and enabled me to get an LLM at RUG. As such, currently, I have completed the Juris Doctor degree and am wrapping up my LLM in Law and Technology at the RUG. In Canada, the study of law is exclusively a graduate study. As a result, I also have an Undergraduate Degree from the University of Toronto. Initially, I planned to go back to Toronto for work after the completion of my study in Groningen. However, I have fallen in love with the city and its walkability/cyclability. As a result, I plan to stay in the city for some time and establish a legal career in Europe. Currently, I am in the process of searching for a legal job. In the meantime, I have lined up some part time work to keep up with expenses. Although surprised, my family is supportive of my decision to stay in Groningen and are willing to act as my financial safety net, if needed. I have been paying 800 EUR for my current SSH accommodation and can provide the receipts. Apart from my study and work-based pursuits, I have kept engaged with hobbies in the city including Salsa and Ballroom dancing. I am also a part of the travel association AEGEE and have taken opportunities to travel across 12 European countries. Additionally, I am currently taking Dutch intensive summer classes. I hope to have at least an A2 level proficiency in the language by the end of this summer.

Hoi! Ik ben Ishara, 22 jaar oud, en momenteel bezig met afstuderen in Toegepaste Psychologie. Vanaf september start ik aan een nieuwe bachelor Psychologie aan de Radboud University. Sinds mijn 18e woon ik al op kamers in Nijmegen en inmiddels heb ik hier echt mijn eigen leven opgebouwd. Op dit moment woon ik in een studentenhuis met een vrij zelfstandige kamer (eigen keuken en ongeveer 30m²), maar ik merk dat ik nu toe ben aan een volgende stap: een eigen studio of appartement waar ik wat meer rust en mijn eigen ritme kan hebben. Ik ben erg zelfstandig, rustig en netjes. Ik hou van een schoon huis en ben eerlijk gezegd een beetje een stress-schoonmaker, er gaat dus wekelijks wel een doekje over alles heen en de stofzuiger wordt regelmatig gebruikt 😄. Ik ga niet vaak uit, organiseer geen feestjes en ga respectvol om met mijn woonomgeving. Natuurlijk heb ik soms vrienden of familie over de vloer, maar verder leef ik vrij rustig. In mijn vrije tijd hou ik van lezen, spelletjes spelen, samen eten met vrienden en gewoon gezelligheid opzoeken. Ik zoek vooral een fijne plek waar ik me thuis kan voelen. Omdat ik volledig op mezelf ga wonen, vind ik het ook belangrijk om goed en open contact te hebben met een huisbaas/verhuurder en duidelijke communicatie te hebben met elkaar. Hey, so a bit of context, I'm 24, finishing up my engineering degree at RWTH Aachen and moving over from September for an internship at ASML. I just want to be upfront that I'm a low-maintenance guy who treats a home with respect, keeping things clean and the noise down. Realistically I'll be pretty busy with work most of the week, and on weekends I'm usually in Maastricht seeing friends, so the room won't see much wear and tear.
