Mosterdsteeg
About the place
* 1,100 (bills included) * Available from 1 June until mid-October (flexible dates) * You can register at the property! * Fully furnished with brand new furniture * Monumental property (built 1650) in a beautiful development on Mosterdsteeg in the centre of Leiden, with a private and historic courtyard, a few steps away from Botermarkt, with an Albert Heijn in the same development * 100% brand new appliances and fixtures etc. (we’re the first tenants ever!) * Separate toilet and sink. Bathroom with shower and sink. * Closet with washing machine and dryer * New double bed, mattress, and wardrobe * Full underfloor heating * The living room and kitchen are on the first floor overlooking the courtyard * One of the tenants has celiac disease, meaning he’s allergic to gluten (I know, it’s terrible). So you will need to be understanding about isolating any gluten-containing products in a separate area and being mindful of certain cookware being ‘gluten-free’. Therefore, celiac or gluten-free people are greatly preferred, but of course this is not a requirement. About your future flatmates: I am Zak and my husband’s name is João. Zak is from Texas in the USA and João is from Brazil. We met in London and have moved to The Netherlands to settle long-term. João works in hospitality and is working towards becoming a hairdresser. He studied acting and journalism back in Brazil. He enjoys altering clothing and knitting, and was the most beloved bartender at his pub in London. Zak is a pastry chef developing a gluten-free bakery business. He studied anthropology as an undergrad and grad student. He’s obsessed with baking (despite being celiac), and greatly enjoys live music, reading, writing, and analog photography. We are exceptionally clean and tidy people. This is not meant to scare you! But it is very important for us to live with someone on a similar cleanliness level, as we don’t want to be cleaning up after you. We are the types who regularly deep clean the bathroom and hardly ever go to bed without the kitchen being wiped down and all dishes being washed etc. If you’re the type who has always been ‘the clean one’ in your home, we’ll get along well. We haven’t secured jobs yet because we are arriving in the coming weeks, so we don’t know our schedules yet. But we will both be working full-time outside the home. Someone who works from home would not be ideal. I love to cook and bake so you can expect many treats! In past living situations, I have shared the majority of dinners with my flatmates. This is by no means a requirement, but if you’re also happy to split costs and meals, that would be great. I especially enjoy cooking Turkish, Mexican, and Vietnamese food. We’re quite social people and love having friends around for coffee or dinner parties etc. You would be more than welcome to do the same. We’re fine with overnight guests as long as it’s communicated and guests stay somewhat lowkey (like, not staying around after you leave etc.). We strongly believe in home being a place to exist in 100% comfort, no awkwardness or hard feelings. We communicate very openly and are extremely difficult to offend, so you would be encouraged to voice absolutely any concern. We believe sharing a home is very often about compromise and we are happy to discuss literally any aspect of our lifestyles and adjust where appropriate. If you’ve read this far and feel we would be a good match, please write to us and tell us as much about you as you’d like. We’re in Brazil right now and Zak will be arriving on 18 May, with João following 1-2 weeks after. We can therefore arrange a video call to chat (we’re 5 hours behind), or we can wait and meet in-person after 18th May.
