My name is Giulia; I was born and raised in Genoa, Italy. Ever since I was a child, I’ve always dreamed of moving abroad to build a life in a new, international, and open-minded country. In recent years, I’ve managed to turn this dream into a concrete plan, deeply convinced that the Netherlands is the perfect place for me. What attracts me to this country is the people's open-mindedness and the balanced, independent lifestyle. I’ve already visited the country twice, including a cultural exchange where I got a taste of an environment where I see myself growing and studying. The main reason for my move would be the psychology program I’d like to pursue at the University of Leiden, one of the best in Europe. In addition, the campus is located next to the ice skating rink—the sport of my dreams, which I am unable to practice in Italy. So living in Leiden would allow me to study the subject I love and practice the sport I’ve always been passionate about, but have never been able to pursue competitively. Ik ben Mara, 22 jaar en woon momenteel in Nijmegen. Momenteel die doe ik een tussenjaar na een Bachelor Psychologie. Tijdens mijn studententijd stond ik altijd open voor contact met medestudenten. Zo nam ik deel aan een studentenvereniging gericht op theater en deed ik mee aan verschillende cursussen in sport zoals badminton en boksen. Met vrienden vind ik het erg leuk goede gesprekken te voeren, te wandelen en iets te drinken in een café. Zelf sport ik graag, houd ik van tekenen, lezen en series en films kijken. Ook werk ik al anderhalf jaar bij een mentale support lijn waarbij ik emotionele ondersteuning bied aan jongvolwassenen. Tijdens mijn tussenjaar ben ik gaan reizen door verschillende landen in Europa en doe ik vrijwilligerswerk waarbij ik in contact kom met mensen van verschillende religies en culturen. Zo werk ik werkte ik in een boeddhistisch centrum en een vluchtelingenkamp. Dit sluit ook aan bij de master die ik wil gaan doen in Groningen; Applied Social Psychology.
