My name is Laoise (pronounced Leesha), I’m 25, from Ireland, and a graduate from International Studies and Governance of Sustainability at Leiden Uni. I came here aged 18 to study, and somewhere along the way I found myself at home in the Hague. I have lived communally for 7 years in student housing. I am looking for a new place as I am currently subletting a studio with a chronic leak (nice way of saying my house is literally flooding on the regular) & mould – naturally, in the middle of a housing crisis. I am trying to stay optimistic and proactive, but the instability of my housing situation is taking a toll on my wellbeing. Finding a place where I can call home long-term would mean the absolute world to me. I am a community-oriented ambivert who deeply values time alone as much as time with people I love. My ideal living situation is one that brings a sense of ease into my life – it’s much less about the specifics. I appreciate a clean and tidy space with room for flexibility when there is a lot going on. More generally, I am happy to fit in with the current dynamic, as long as there is space for me too! If you like to cook and eat communally, I would love to participate, but I am also more than happy to do my own thing. I am an open & non-violent communicator; I deeply appreciate when someone has the courage to tell me what’s on their mind with kindness. I’ve found that the real secret to communal living is putting pride aside and seeing the human in front of you — with their own perspective, boundaries, and needs — and finding a way to meet in the middle. Currently, I am a full-time freelancer, I host yoga/breathwork/meditation classes, workshops and the odd day retreat. The beauty of freelance is its creative freedom: I can weave my love for movement, writing, crafting, music, and designing workshops to create somatic experiences. I am currently on an entrepreneurial pursuit; trying to bring together my love for movement and community with my knowledge on sustainability. Honestly, I never knew it was possible to love work so much, and I find so much purpose in sharing what has supported me over the years. I consider myself to be a person who balances depth with light-heartedness. Joy and laughter are so important to me. For me, the moments that make life worth living are the unplanned ones – belly laughing on the couch, watching the sunset with someone I love, spending time with animals, cuddles, dancing until my legs feel like they’re going to fall off, music, and seeing the beauty in each moment & person I encounter. Other hobbies of mine include climbing, surfing, cooking, kombucha-making and mushroom-growing (I love self-sufficiency!), painting, singing & playing (mediocre) guitar, philosophy, and many others – some constant, and some I dip in and out of.
