I will be an Erasmus exchange student at Utrecht University, where I study Law a field I am absolutely passionate about! I am incredibly excited about this upcoming adventure and can't wait to make the most of it. To tell you a bit about myself, I am someone who genuinely loves life and staying active. I have a huge passion for traveling, reading, doing sports, and meeting new people from all backgrounds. My name is Amir, I am half Moroccan, half German and grew up in Frankfurt, Germany. I am studying Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics at UvA and am now moving into my second year. Next to my studies, I work at a boutique hotel on Leidsegracht and am part of a student-led interviewing platform. When Im home, which doesnt happen too often these days, I like to read and relax mostly. I am a 24-year-old Canadian law student from Toronto. I have been in Groningen since August 2025. I came to Groningen as part of my Canadian University’s partnership with RUG that allowed me to finish my Canadian Juris Doctor degree and enabled me to get an LLM at RUG. As such, currently, I have completed the Juris Doctor degree and am wrapping up my LLM in Law and Technology at the RUG. In Canada, the study of law is exclusively a graduate study. As a result, I also have an Undergraduate Degree from the University of Toronto. Initially, I planned to go back to Toronto for work after the completion of my study in Groningen. However, I have fallen in love with the city and its walkability/cyclability. As a result, I plan to stay in the city for some time and establish a legal career in Europe. Currently, I am in the process of searching for a legal job. In the meantime, I have lined up some part time work to keep up with expenses. Although surprised, my family is supportive of my decision to stay in Groningen and are willing to act as my financial safety net, if needed. I have been paying 800 EUR for my current SSH accommodation and can provide the receipts. Apart from my study and work-based pursuits, I have kept engaged with hobbies in the city including Salsa and Ballroom dancing. I am also a part of the travel association AEGEE and have taken opportunities to travel across 12 European countries. Additionally, I am currently taking Dutch intensive summer classes. I hope to have at least an A2 level proficiency in the language by the end of this summer.
