About the room and the house: A nice, peaceful room in a spacious flat in Amsterdam East! The apartment is located in a green, park-like area in the middle of the city, so there are no cars and very little noise. The room itself is bright and spacious and opens through a glass door onto a small winter-garden balcony, where there is a nice little reading corner – so there is quite a bit of space to be by yourself if you feel like it. 

The living room is large, with an open kitchen and a huge dining table. The bathroom is separate from the toilet and even has a bathtub – very handy during Dutch winters. Overall, the apartment feels surprisingly spacious for Amsterdam. 

About the location: Even though the apartment is surrounded by greenery, you're right in the middle of the city. Javastraat is around the corner, Artis is just on the other side, Muiderpoort Station is a 5-minute bike ride away, and Amsterdam Centraal can be reached in about 10 minutes (though I once made it in 6 minutes in an emergency 😊). There is also a ferry to Noord just a few minutes away by bike. 

A bit about me: I am Sarah, 36 years old, originally from Germany (though working very hard on my Dutch), and currently working as a researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. While I am very passionate about my work, which focuses on entrepreneurship and societal transitions, I am equally happy spending time outside my head: going for a run, swimming in the canals, exploring this country (and its greatest bars), or occasionally ending up in a dancing mood. Before coming to Amsterdam, I lived in different places around the world, from India and Scotland to the Caribbean, so I have collected quite a few travel and house sharing stories along the way :). 

Who I am looking for: Over the years, I have come to value a calm and friendly atmosphere at home, where people respect each other's space while still enjoying the occasional chat, shared dinner, or glass (or two or three) of wine or beer together. Not a party house, but a shared laugh in the kitchen after a weird day at work is always a wonderful end to a day :)
